MOROCCO
Morocco, with a population of 30 million, is a fast growing country in the North Eastern corner of Africa, with long coastlines in both the Southern Mediterranean and the Atlantic. In addition to the attractions of its coastal resorts, Morocco also possesses the truly spectacular mountain ranges of the high and low Atlas. Although the country is also well known for the Sahara Desert, the largest in the world, Morocco also has fertile plains. Fruit, olive oil and flowers are important exports.

Morocco is a politically stable country which, under the leadership of its constitutional monarch King Mohammed VI, has initiated a wide-reaching reform of the country's economy and a liberalisation of its society and constitution. A central plank of this plan initiated in 2001 was Vision 2010, which puts tourism at the forefront of the country's economic development. The plan encouraged foreign investment in property and launched a dramatic upgrading of the nation's infrastructure.

Although Morocco is an Islamic country, both Jewish and Christian communities and their places of worship are fully respected. Marrakech has a flourishing Jewish quarter and there are also Catholic and Protestant churches in the city.

MARRAKECH
Marrakech is a bustling city of one million inhabitants. The city is famous for the nightlife of the Grande Place and the surrounding souks (markets) of the Medina. Dancers, snake charmers, food stalls, spice sellers, jewellers, carpet dealers, leather and craft goods represent just some of the attractions of this UNESCO heritage site. This large mediaeval old city with its myriad of alleyways remains the heart of Marrakech.

By contrast new Marrakech is an exotic garden city fed by waters from the nearby Atlas Mountains. Winston Churchill, who loved the city, referred to Marrakech as the 'Paris of the desert'.

In addition to the tradition attractions of Marrakech, the city is also becoming a leading golf destination with 3 new golf courses constructed in the last decade along with the historic Marrakech Royal Golf Course. The city has also attracted the world's leading hotel groups. The Four Season's first resort in Africa is in Marrakech; likewise the famous Aman group have opened the spectacular Amanjenna. In the mountains, Richard Branson's Virgin Limited Edition have restored the Kasbah Tamadot.
